Morning Devotional 120222 Signs of God

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

December 2, 2022

Read Psalm 8:1-9

1 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! 2 From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. 3 When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place 4 what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? 5 You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. 6 You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet 7 all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, 8 the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea. 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!

Good Morning, Our God is an Awesome God!

I’m sitting in the quietness of this morning focusing on the lights on my Christmas tree. As I look around the room, I see the reflection of the lights on other things in the otherwise dark room. Just as the lights reflect around me, God’s glory shines and reflects all around us. Depending on the surface, some of the reflections are crisp and clear as they mirror the lights. some of the reflections appear much differently and are much less obvious.

I believe that when we look for signs of God we have a similar experience. When we enjoy God’s majesty around us, God’s presence is obvious as we enjoy a beautiful sunset like we saw last night. Other signs are more muted and almost hidden from the casual viewer. Only those who are looking for signs will notice and see God among us.

God’s glory shines around us in every moment of every day, but we are called to wake up and be vigilant. God made us in his own image and gave us dominion over the land, seas, and sky. As caretakers, we have been entrusted with great authority. Through our relationship with God, we are blessed with the promise that we are never alone. When we feel isolated, all we must do is look at the signs of God that surround and glorify us in the name of Jesus, son of God. God is watching us, knows us by name, and cares for us.

Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. You continually bless us with Your grace and mercy. Help us to share with You every day. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I am on God’s mind every day.

Open your eyes and see God! Pastor Liz
