Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

Read Psalm 145:1-13
1 I will lift you up high, my God, the true king. I will bless your name forever and always. 2 I will bless you every day. I will praise your name forever and always. 3 The LORD is great and so worthy of praise! God’s greatness can’t be grasped. 4 One generation will praise your works to the next one, proclaiming your mighty acts. 5 They will talk all about the glorious splendor of your majesty; I will contemplate your wondrous works. 6 They will speak of the power of your awesome deeds; I will declare your great accomplishments. 7 They will rave in celebration of your abundant goodness; they will shout joyfully about your righteousness: 8 “The LORD is merciful and compassionate, very patient, and full of faithful love. 9 The LORD is good to everyone and everything; God’s compassion extends to all his handiwork!” 10 All that you have made gives thanks to you, LORD; all your faithful ones bless you! 11 They speak of the glory of your kingdom; they talk all about your power, 12 to inform all human beings about God’s power and the majestic glory of God’s kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is a kingship that lasts forever; your rule endures for all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all that he says, faithful in all that he does.
Good Morning! I will lift the name of Jesus on high!
On this chilly morning, I am marvelling at God’s creation. As we move from the hot, humid days into the crisp mornings of Fall, it’s amazing to see the icy grass sparkle in the light of my flashlight and crunch as we walk along our path. God’s handiwork is evident everywhere I look. Hallelujah!
Today’s passage ties in beautifully with tomorrow’s All Saint’s service. Each generation is the recipient of the stories of God brought to life by the saints that lead us along our paths. I think of sitting in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School listening and learning about God. I had one Sunday School teacher who used a flannel board and characters to create storyboards to help us not only hear, but see the stories. I don’t remember all the specifics, but I do remember the love and joy of being gathered together learning.
How we live and share our faith is important to our children. If no one passes down the stories, our world will turn to darkness. It is sad to see how many children in our world today simply do not know God. Satan has a strong hold in our world and works daily to eliminate God from our schools and public gatherings. Only with God’s help can we find the strength to combat this evil and open our children’s hearts, so that they will know God’s love.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. Help us bring joy and hope back to our children. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: My faithful living can make a difference for future generations.
Share your love of God with your children! Pastor Liz
