Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 26, 2023
Isaiah 41:8-10
8 But you, Israel my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham, whom I love, 9 you whom I took from the ends of the earth and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant; I chose you and didn’t reject you”: 10 Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.
Good Morning. Standing on the promises of God!
God chooses us and doesn’t reject us. Those whom God chooses are in his care forever.
We have fears each time we enter a new phase of our lives. Fears of the unknown are often my greatest challenge. The past five years have brought many changes to my life. As our parents age, we begin to know that their earthly time is reaching an end. Even though we know and understand the physical reality of this, we are never ready to consider the emotional challenges that the passing of your parent brings.
As we age, we face the end of our careers. This adds it own challenges because we have spent the better part of our adult life creating this identity that is tied to our job. We develop work-related relationships, so when we retire, we lose a part of ourselves if we suddenly lose one of our circle of friends. Some even experience a loss of self. You might think, “If I’m no longer the teacher, who am I?”
Through each of our transitions, God is with us and holds us in his hand. We are blessed by our Creator who promises to love and care for us forever. “Fear not, I am with you, so be not dismayed. For I am thy God, and I will still give thee aid.” Hallelujah! Amen!
Creator God, We love you! We are weak, but you make us strong. We feel lost; you take our hands and lead us through the darkness. Thank you for loving us. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is always near, protecting and upholding me.
Turn to God when you are troubled! Pastor Liz
