Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 19, 2024
Matthew 18:10, 12-14
10 “Be careful that you don’t look down on one of these little ones. I say to you that their angels in heaven are always looking into the face of my Father who is in heaven. 12 What do you think? If someone had one hundred sheep and one of them wandered off, wouldn’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillsides and go in search for the one that wandered off? 13 If he finds it, I assure you that he is happier about having that one sheep than about the ninety-nine who didn’t wander off. 14 In the same way, my Father, who is in heaven doesn’t want to lose one of these little ones.
Good Morning! Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound!
Being lost is a very scary feeling. Whether we are a small child who wanders off in a store in search of a toy or an adult who is driving to our destination, we feel alone and scared. For me, it is especially bad when I am lost in a desolate area. We don’t like to stop and ask, but when no one is around, we don’t even have a choice.
Remember how you feel when you are lost and wandering, looking for anything or anyone familiar, then suddenly someone taps you on the shoulder and says, “Hey, I was looking for you!” The exhilaration of that moment is indescribable. Every spec of tension leaves your body all at once.
When we are spiritually lost, God will keep looking until he finds us and brings us home. That promise keeps us filled with hope. I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now I see.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. Thank you for always looking for us. Without you, we would be forever lost. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: We will never get lost following God’s way.
God’s Amazing Grace leads us home! Pastor Liz
