Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 12, 2024
Proverbs 3:1-6
1 My son, don’t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands, 2 because they will help you live a long time and provide you with well-being. 3 Don’t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
Good Morning! Trust in the Lord with all your heart!
When things seem improbable, impractical, or even impossible, we must ignore our brains and let our hearts guide us. This past two weeks, I spent more time than I care to admit watching athletes compete in the Olympics. I am amazed at each athlete’s dedication to their goal.
It’s fun to watch a well-trained athlete initiate all their training regimes and perform at their best. Perhaps I am most intrigued by those who come and do their personal best but finish well off the pace to receive a medal. Most of the events have qualifying heats. For many, their one and only chance to compete is in that first heat. Despite the odds, they come out and do their best. Even those who finish last have accomplished so much. They trust that the days, months, and years of dedication have led them to this moment. Regardless of their placement, they celebrate their effort.
Our faith journey should resemble the dedication of these athletes. We set our routines and schedule time for meditation and prayer, serving others, and worshiping God. We continue this regime for days, months, and years. When doubts begin to creep in, we must trust our training and go out and do our best. When we know God in all our paths, God will keep our ways straight.
Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. You give us the tools we need. Help us use them to guide us on our faith journey. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Trust God with all your heart!
Celebrate God along your journey! Pastor Liz
