Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  April 16, 2025

Psalm 66:16-20

16 Come close and listen, all you who honor God; I will tell you what God has done for me: 17 My mouth cried out to him with praise on my tongue. 18 If I had cherished evil in my heart, my Lord would not have listened. 19 But God definitely listened. He heard the sound of my prayer. 20 Bless God! He didn’t reject my prayer; he didn’t withhold his faithful love from me.

Good Morning. God hears our prayers!

Have you ever had the urge to share your love of God with others? It’s funny how reluctant we are to share the Good News of Christ with the world.

Generally, when we receive good news, we can’t wait to call someone and tell them about our good fortune. We take pictures and share them with anyone willing to look. You could say that we become shameless in our attempts to let others know what has happened.

Think about the arrival of a new baby! The parents, grandparents, and even aunts and uncles are anxious to share pictures and talk about everything the baby is doing. I’m not condemning this practice and am guilty of doing the same. I love everything about new babies.

I’m just trying to make a point that we might boldly share the good news of a baby in one case, but we might become timid and shy in the case of sharing the Good News of Christ. The most amazing thing that can happen to a human is to receive the gift of eternal life. By God’s grace, we, flawed and sinful, are offered the unconditional love of God. All who repent of their sins and proclaim Christ as Lord and Savior shall be redeemed.

I’m reminded of the Pharisees who asked Jesus to quiet the disciples, and Jesus replied, “If these are silent, even the stones will cry out.” Let us not sit silently this day. Go out and share God’s love with someone.

Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We praise you in our minds, but help us to boldly shout our praises for all to hear. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Let others know of God’s amazing grace!

Openly share the Good News! Pastor Liz
