Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 5, 2025
Luke 6:10-15
10 “Whoever is faithful with little is also faithful with much, and the one who is dishonest with little is also dishonest with much. 11 If you haven’t been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 If you haven’t been faithful with someone else’s property, who will give you your own? 13 No household servant can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” 14 The Pharisees, who were money-lovers, heard all this and sneered at Jesus. 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before other people, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued by people is deeply offensive to God.
Good Morning. Happy eleventh day of Christmas!
Today’s passage continues our discussion from yesterday of trying to follow earthly and heavenly paths. We are called to be faithful stewards. We each receive our portion of blessings from God. With whatever we are given, we are to use it so that it may grow abundantly.
I once knew a person who was a marvelous musician. She played at church a few times, and everyone was greatly pleased. The leaders of the church wanted her to agree to play on a regular basis, but she didn’t want to make that commitment because she liked to go out on Saturday evenings, and the late nights made coming to church on Sunday difficult.
Over the years, she drifted further from the church and only attended on rare occasions. I asked her whether she still played the piano, and she shared that it had been so long since she played that she didn’t remember how.
Her piano, once a source of beautiful music, sits quietly in her house. Had she made different choices, her music wouldn’t just be a distant memory but a living, growing gift that blessed not only her but all who listened.
Share your gifts from God so that they might grow to their full potential.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You bless us in so many ways. Help us see your path for our lives. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Glorify God by being a faithful steward!
Share and be blessed! Pastor Liz
