Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 1, 2025
Romans 12:1-2
1 So, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercies, I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service. 2 Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.
Good Morning. This is a day of new beginnings!
2 Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds
These are great words to consider as we begin a new year. I feel that we are called to live beyond the limitations of this world. When Christ gave himself for our salvation, God showed that even death could be conquered. The world asked, “How can this be so? Death is the end. Isn’t it?”
For believers, earthly death is simply a transition into a new, more perfect existence. Paul saw the glories of heaven but remained committed to his earthly mission until God determined it was his time to transition to heaven. He wrote in Philippians, …22 But if I go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. So what shall I choose? I do not know. 23 I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed. 24 But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.…
During our earthly walk, we are called to allow the Holy Spirit within us to transform and renew our minds so that we might be the beings God intended us to be. This can only happen if we let go of the earthly ideals and standards that place a barrier between us and God.
We must work to gather heavenly treasures like serving others and giving generously to others, not earthly ones like attaining power and wealth. On this first day of 2025, spend time with God and listen to his calling to you this day.
Gracious Lord, Maker of all things! We praise your holy name and thank you for our blessings to walk this earth today. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: We nourish our souls when we spend time with God.
Let the spirit transform you! Pastor Liz
